Wales v Cheshire (Ladies County Championship 2018)

The 2018 Ladies County matches got underway on Sunday 20 May. Wales played Mid Cheshire with the Home venue at Min Y Don Bowling Club and the Away venue, Rudheath Sports and Social Club, Cheshire. The Referee for the afternoon was Stan Warburton. Past President Dusia Price, EGB Member Peter Higham, WCGBA Secretary Pauline Lindley and Patron John Percy all came to support the match. Welsh Ladies Merit

The Ladies Individual Merit was played on Saturday 19th May – competing with the Royal Wedding and FA Cup Final among other things. This year it was held at Cunliffe Bowling Club. The event was hosted by President Brenda Jones who also welcomed each competitor and started off each match. Referees on the day were Jim Clarke, Tom Lockyer and Peter Hughes. There was a much smaller entry than previous years, but those taking part gave spectators quite a feast of talent. East meets West – the latest from the Crown Green circuit

Sunday 13th May should have marked the start of the Welsh Junior campaign for the 2018 British Junior County title. Due to the group arrangement this year, Wales are in a group of five. This meant our Juniors had an open date. However, the opportunity to get all potential players together for a friendly was too good to miss and this was held at the Oval Bowling Club, Llandudno. Stars of the Future!

Whilst many eyes were on Broadbeach and the Commonwealth Games in recent weeks, domestic matters continued to reach a climax for the 2017/2018 indoor season. Our young bowlers competitions are well respected and long established, and have been running for over 20 years. Throughout this time, the competitions have helped bring through many stars of the future supported by our clubs and dedicated parents who travel across the country week in week out. “What a hero” They say the man will be given the freedom of “Bont”. That was the reaction on social media to the final bowl that Gilbert Miles drew in to claim a Bronze medal against Scotland. Monday, 9th April 2018 will live long in the memory of all Welsh bowlers and the friends and family of Daniel Salmon & Marc Wyatt – crowned 2018 Commonwealth Games Lawn Bowls Mens Pairs – GOLD medallists. Day Three – Commonwealth Games Day three was also going to be a pivotal day in the quest for medals in Week One of the Lawn Bowls events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Day One – 2018 Commonwealth Games

The 2018 Commonwealth Games is underway in what was a busy first day for our Welsh bowlers in the Lawn Bowls events. Ten matches in all, which started in bright morning sunshine, before a mid-afternoon cloudburst delayed play before the evening session under the Broadbeach floodlights. Laura Daniels began her Ladies Singles campaign with two wins, firstly an excellent 21-15 win over Guernsey’s recently crowned World Cup indoor singles winner Lucy Beere.
