BowlsWales, the co-ordinating body for bowls in Wales have been recognised for their commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, by achieving the Equality Standard for Sport Foundation Award.

The Equality Standard is awarded to sporting organisations that have demonstrated progress towards diversity across their staff, board, members, coaches and participants, maintained an inclusive approach throughout the organisations’ functions, policies and procedures as well as planning and developing initiatives to address each protected characteristic.

Alun Jones, Chair of BowlsWales said: “I am a passionate believer that everyone should be treated equally and with respect. This process has helped to highlight the progress we have made as an organisation. It has also shown what more we should be doing to ensure our board, committees, staff and members accurately reflect those with whom we are working to support and engage in our sport.  As a relatively new organisation, achieving the Foundation award has demonstrated a commitment to embedding equality throughout the organisations. We will continue to strive to develop structures, processes and ensuring continuous improvement in equality”

Cerys Humphreys, BowlsWales Lead Board Member for Equality added: “This achievement demonstrates the commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion that BowlsWales have made over the last few months and I look forward to working with member associations as we continue work in this area and progress onto the Preliminary Award.
