Welsh Crown Green Bowling 2019 Finals

WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION WCGBA Senior Merit 2019 (Gwyn Morris Trophy)- President, Dave Mathias with the foursemi-finalists. The Senior Men’s Individual Merit is seen as a feast of bowling, and the 2019 finals day at Benllech BC delivered just that. The event was hosted by our President Dave Mathias with excellent support and help from WCGBA Management members and Gwynedd Area Officials. Clive Morris, a great supporter like his late father, Gwyn, was also there and guest Ken Burton, a Director from Bowls Wales. The Referees for the day were DT Evans, Alan Davies, Arthur Peake and Ian Black.

Nia Butler has left her position as General Manager of BowlsWales to spend more time with her young family. Nia said, ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with BowlsWales and believe that we have created a strong business platform.’ She continued, ‘BowlsWales is a hugely valuable organisation with a real opportunity to grow the sport and allow it the recognition it deserves. Wales Win BIIBC U25 International Series

Wales won the BIIBC U25 International Series held at Aberdeen IBC, following a dominant display during the series throughout the weekend.   Steve Rees, Team Manager said “It was very pleasing to lift the title for the first time since 2004 and the team thoroughly deserved their success after fighting like tigers from the first end of the opening match to the final end of the last match. Wales v Cheshire (Ladies County Championship 2018)

The 2018 Ladies County matches got underway on Sunday 20 May. Wales played Mid Cheshire with the Home venue at Min Y Don Bowling Club and the Away venue, Rudheath Sports and Social Club, Cheshire. The Referee for the afternoon was Stan Warburton. Past President Dusia Price, EGB Member Peter Higham, WCGBA Secretary Pauline Lindley and Patron John Percy all came to support the match. Welsh Ladies Merit

The Ladies Individual Merit was played on Saturday 19th May – competing with the Royal Wedding and FA Cup Final among other things. This year it was held at Cunliffe Bowling Club. The event was hosted by President Brenda Jones who also welcomed each competitor and started off each match. Referees on the day were Jim Clarke, Tom Lockyer and Peter Hughes. There was a much smaller entry than previous years, but those taking part gave spectators quite a feast of talent. East meets West – the latest from the Crown Green circuit

Sunday 13th May should have marked the start of the Welsh Junior campaign for the 2018 British Junior County title. Due to the group arrangement this year, Wales are in a group of five. This meant our Juniors had an open date. However, the opportunity to get all potential players together for a friendly was too good to miss and this was held at the Oval Bowling Club, Llandudno. All in all there were some 45 juniors. These came from the east of Wales, Wrexham and Flintshire Areas and from the West, Glyndwr and Gwynedd.  The event was managed by
