Stroke Survivors use Bowls as recovery

Stroke survivors throughout Wales can now turn to the sport of Bowls on their road to recovery This follows the announcement of a new partnership between Stroke Association Wales and BowlsWales to put stroke survivors in touch with their local bowls club to learn the sport – and take more steps on a return to better health. BOWLS CLUBS THROUGHOUT WALES TO BENEFIT THROUGH SPORT WALES GRANTS 20 Lawn and Crown Green Bowls clubs the length and breadth of Wales will benefit from £112,479 worth of funding from the Sport Wales Place for Sport grant scheme this year. The Clubs are among 118 different clubs and organisations from throughout Welsh sport to gain awards from the £1 million fund, controlled by Sport Wales. Junior Merit – Crown Green Bowling

It was definitely a case of ‘thunderbolt and lightning’ at the Welsh Junior Merit at Benllech on Sunday 27th May. Deputy President, Dave Mathias was our host with Referees DT Evans, Arthur Peake and Alan Davies. This year we had a smaller number of entries than previous occasions with a field of 24 players from across North Wales. 10 Nations Tournament Announcement

The eyes of the bowls world will be on Cardiff & Vale next month for a 10 nations test match. Wales have invited nine countries to take part in the nine-day event which is being held as part of the preparation for the Atlantic Championships which Wales will host in 2019. Countries taking part are Malaysia, Australia, USA, Spain, Ireland, Jersey, Canada, South Africa and Namibia (men only). East meets West – the latest from the Crown Green circuit

Sunday 13th May should have marked the start of the Welsh Junior campaign for the 2018 British Junior County title. Due to the group arrangement this year, Wales are in a group of five. This meant our Juniors had an open date. However, the opportunity to get all potential players together for a friendly was too good to miss and this was held at the Oval Bowling Club, Llandudno. Congratulations to the junior team from Rhondda Indoor Bowls Club who were recently crowned the inaugural champions of the new WIBA Frantic Five competition. The inaugural Frantic Five competition took place on Sunday 8th April at Radnorshire Indoor Bowls Club. The competition was organised by the WIBA to encourage young bowlers to play competitively in a team environment, whilst having fun and embracing the spirit of the game. Julie Thomas & Gilbert Miles with Directors John Wilson and Bryon John today took on South Africa in the B2/B3 mixed pairs semi-final match and narrowly missed out on a spot in the final; it was a close fought game going all the way to the last bowl. Daniels’ outstanding form continued into the semi-final where she faced Canada’s Kelly McKerihen powering past her Canadian opposition winning 21 – 13.
