VACANCY FOR BOWLSWALES GENERAL MANAGER

BowlsWales is the coordinating body for bowls in Wales and is looking to recruit a key member of staff to assist in the delivery of its aims and objectives

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide a central point of contact working closely with the Board of Directors, Members, Key Stakeholders and other staff including volunteers.
The successful candidate will ensure that strong, robust governance procedures are in place as well as providing support to the Board and its focus groups

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
You’ll need to be highly resilient, comfortable managing a mixed portfolio and delivering in a fast paced and challenging environment. You will be naturally collaborative and will seek out opportunities to develop strong working relationships.

DETAILS:
SALARY £22.5K + additional benefits
HOURS 35 hrs per week (working patterns and hours are negotiable)
RESPONSIBLE TO Chair of the Board
LOCATION Office facilities at Sport Wales, Cardiff, with the option of flexible and remote working
DURATION This post is on a fixed term basis for 1 year and is subject to annual confirmation of a Sport Wales funding award. If the funding is withdrawn/reduced before the fixed term period expires, your contract of employment will/may be terminated with one month’s written notice.

ELECTION OF BOWLSWALES BOARD DIRECTOR(S)

BowlsWales is the coordinating body for the sport of bowls in Wales. Our vision ‘Bowls as a lifetime sport for all’ Our purpose ‘Achieving success on all levels’. BowlsWales is a company limited by guarantee with a skills-based Board of Directors. We are looking to elect up to three further Board Directors.

To fully deliver against our ambitions, it is essential that the Board has the right blend of skills, diversity and experience as outlined in the Governance and Leadership Framework for Wales. BowlsWales are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Board to support the delivery of our aims and objectives.

The Roles

If you would like to contribute your time, skills and experience we are looking for individuals who can demonstrate an ability to support us in the following areas:

• Legal Requirements – ensuring strong governance and advice

• Commercial Expertise – develop a strong vibrant image and achieve best value for money for the organisation

• Information Technology – providing modern robust methods of working including up to date communication techniques

Previous experience of being on a Board is not a prerequisite. The role will require around 1-2 day/s per month of your time to attend board meetings and any relevant working groups, meetings, events.

This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in supporting the development of all aspects of a major sport in Wales, from grass roots to elite level performance.

Whilst this is a non-salaried position, reasonable expenses to attend meetings will be paid to the successful candidate BowlsWales is committed to achieving a diverse, inclusive and balanced Board and are committed to equality of opportunity. Our aim is to have a 60:40 Board Gender mix by March 2020. Females are currently underrepresented on the Board and we would openly encourage applications from individuals possessing the required skills set.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a keen interest in sport and its development. The main purposes of the post are to ensure the smooth day to day running of the Bowling Association, its upkeep and to actively seek opportunities to promote its activities.
