Register as a bowler in Wales
Every bowler in Wales is being added to one national register — lawn, indoor, short mat and crown green. You do it yourself, online, and it takes about five minutes.
Not sure what you'll be asked? See the screen-by-screen guide to the form.
We're asking everyone to be registered by January 2027.
How to register
1. Fill in the form. Go to bowlswales.justgo.com and answer the questions. It takes about five minutes.
2. Check your email. We'll send you a message with a link in it. Click the link to confirm the address is yours.
3. That's it. You can log back in any time to change your details — a new address, a new club, a new phone number. Once a year we'll email to remind you to check everything is still right.
Who needs to register
Everyone who plays bowls in Wales. It doesn't matter whether you play in competitions or just for fun, or which of the four codes you play. Coaches, umpires and volunteers need to register too.
You register yourself. Your club doesn't have to put together a list or send us anything.
Why we're asking
To keep bowls safe. We need to know that coaches, umpires and volunteers have an up-to-date DBS check — the background check for anyone working with children or adults at risk — and have done the safeguarding training their role needs. We also use your date of birth to see who is under 18, so the right protections apply to them. How we use your information for safeguarding.
To protect funding. Sport Wales and the other organisations that fund bowls need accurate numbers — how many of us there are, what ages, and which parts of Wales we play in. We can't count what we don't know.
To plan for the future. Knowing who plays, where, and in which code is what lets us make the case for the sport.
Why we ask for your address
Your address shows us which parts of Wales bowls is played in. That's part of what we report to Sport Wales.
It also helps with safeguarding. If we ever have to share information with the police or another official body, your address may be part of what we share.
We won't post things to you unless you've told us you want to hear from us that way. Read more in our Privacy Policy.
The questions about you
Near the end of the form there are some questions about ethnicity, disability, religion, transgender status, sexual orientation and caring responsibilities. They're the same questions used in the Census.
You do not have to answer any of these questions. Choosing not to answer, or selecting "Prefer not to say", will not affect your membership in any way.
Your individual answers are confidential. BowlsWales and your national governing body can only see overall, aggregated figures — for example, the percentage of members who identified in a particular way. No one can see how you personally answered these questions. Where fewer than six people gave the same answer, that figure is hidden entirely so that no individual can be identified.
We ask because we want bowls to be open to everyone, and we can only show that if we know who is playing. You can change or delete your answers whenever you like, by logging in. Read more in our Privacy Policy.
What happens to your information
Who holds it. BowlsWales, at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.
Where it's kept. In the UK. The platform is run for us by a UK company called Azolve, who trade as JustGo. They can only use your information the way we tell them to, and never for their own purposes.
Who can see it. Four groups, and no one else:
- Your own governing body — Welsh Lawn Bowls, Welsh Indoor Bowls, and so on. They see your name, contact details, club, code, and whether you coach or umpire. They can only see members of their own code.
- Sport Wales and our other funders, where they need it for reporting.
- Government bodies and regulators, where the law says we must.
- The police, to help investigate or prevent a crime.
We will never sell your personal data to third parties for marketing or commercial purposes. See the full list of who we share information with.
How long we keep it. Seven years after we last hear from you, unless the law says we have to keep it longer. Read more.
Emails from us. You choose what you get, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
What you can ask for. You can ask to see everything we hold about you, ask us to correct anything wrong, and in some cases ask us to delete it. No computer makes decisions about you on its own. If you're unhappy with how we're handling your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner — but please come to us first, so we can put it right. Read more about your rights.
Everything above is set out in full in our Privacy Policy. JustGo have their own privacy policy as well.
If you need a hand
You don't have to do this on your own.
- Follow our step-by-step guide to the form, with a screenshot of every screen.
- Most questions are already answered in the JustGo FAQs.
- Ask someone at your club to sit with you while you fill it in. They're just helping you use your own login — your details stay yours.
- No email address? Email us at enquiries@bowlswales.com, or ask someone at your club to, and we'll find a way round it.
Once you're registered, change your own details by logging in rather than emailing us. It's quicker for you, and it keeps the register right.
