WCGBA- WELSH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2022.

The Welsh Club Championship 2022 was played on Sunday 18th September at Brymbo Bowling Club. Referees on the day were Peter Hughes, Arthur Peake and Tom Lockyer. There were four teams in contention for the title – one from each area of North Wales and each the winner of their respective Area Cup. They were; Flintshire Area – represented by Mold Rec. BC, Glyndwr represented by Colwyn Bay British Legion, Gwynedd by Beaumaris BC and Wrexham by Cunliffe BC. WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION- Welsh Qualifier for the British Centenary Mixed Pairs Comp. 2022

The Mixed Pairs qualifier and Welsh final day was held at Craig-y-Don BC on Sunday 28th August 2022. Referees on the day were, DT Evans, Alan Davies, Arthur Peake and Richard Haywood. Entry was substantially higher this year with 17 mixed pairs contending on the day. The early rounds got underway with Nicola Boulton and partner Tom Loundes taking an excellent win 21-11 for their first game. Paul and Marie Hallett also progressed to the next round along with Gary and Sian Maddox, and Linda Williams with partner Ritchie Jameson. These four eventually made the semi final stage. Here Linda

The BCGBA Junior Individual Merit was held on Saturday 20th August 2022 at Ashton Cricket Club, Greater Manchester. Wales may be only one part of the Crown Green world in Britain, but we punch well above our weight when it comes to talent. Our two representatives Ryan P Williams – Llanfair PG BC. ( 2022 Welsh Junior Merit Champion ) and Finley Hormbrey – Fron Park BC and 2022 Runner-up faced a field of other talented youngsters from across the world of Crown Green bowls. Ryan had a comfortable 21-10 win in his first match against Jack Brannon of Cheshire.

BCG Ladies Dorothy Piearce Memorial Pairs. This popular ladies pairs competition reached its final day on Saturday 12th August at Fox Lane Sports and Social Club ,Leyland, Lancashire. 32 pairs – two pairs from each county competing for the trophy. Wales has come close to clinching the title of champions before. Linda Williams and partner Belinda Lloyd started their campaign solidly with a 21-17 win in the first round against a couple from North Midlands. WELSH CROWN GREEN JUNIOR TEAM TAKE BRONZE.  In the Drakes Pride Junior County Championship 2022, Wales were frustrated in their attempt to get second place. A very strong Yorkshire team won the championship as was expected, but it was the contest between Wales and Shropshire for silver that dominated everyone’s thoughts. The Senior Men’s Merit final was held on Sunday 26th June 2022 at Nercwys Bowling Club. Our host for the day was President Simon Walker. Welsh Veterans Finals Day – 1st June 2022 – held at the Caernarfon Bowling Club.

The Quarter Finals saw the following results: John Bonatti (Coed Talon) – 21 Geraint Roberts (Prestatyn Highbury) – 9 Elfyn Jones (Caerwys) – 21 Phil Holmes (Prestatyn Highbury) – 11 Kerrie Jones (Gresford Colliery) – 21 Bob Jones (Mold Rec) 15 Brian Hayes (Esclusham) – 21 Kevin Williams (Craig Y Don) – 15.   The Semi Finals were dominated by the Jones’ with Elfyn beating John 21/12 and Kerrie beating Brian 21/11. After a two year absence the Crown Green world in Wales was pleased to hold the Junior Merit Final – this year at Abergele Bowling Club on Sunday 29th May. The event was well attended, as you might expect, and Abergele welcomed parents, grand-parents, past Presidents of the WCGBA and BCGBA, officials and sixteen excited players. Entries were much reduced with Covid preventing this event, meaning that many former junior players were now no longer eligible to enter. Welsh Government announcement 28/01/2022

Following the Welsh Government announcement this afternoon, from 28th January, restrictions to outdoor events and gatherings will be removed as Wales completes move to Alert level 0. • From 28th January, Wales will return to Alert Level 0, meaning there will be no restrictions on gathering or number limits for indoor activity • Clubs and operates must still carry out a COVID risk assessment of your club or facility in order to mitigate the risk of spreading Coronavirus • Face-covering rules will remain in force with the exception of hospitality settings such as restaurants, pubs, cafes and nightclubs • The
