Wales at Glasgow 2026: Men’s Pairs and Women’s Singles Campaigns
With the Commonwealth Games now over, here's a full round-up of how Daniel Salmon and Ross Owen fared in the Men's Pairs, and how Amy Williams got on in the Women's Singles, across the second half of the bowls and para bowls programme.
Day Five – Tuesday 28 July
Women's Singles – Amy Williams Amy Williams kicked off her Women's Singles campaign in Section C, taking on India's Nayanmoni Saikia and starting well with a solid 2-0 win.
Men's Pairs – Daniel Salmon & Ross Owen Team Wales Baton Bearer Dan Salmon kicked off his Commonwealth Games pairs campaign alongside partner Ross Owen in the afternoon, beginning Section A with a comfortable 2-0 win over Niue's Tifaga Tupuiliu and Keith Papani.
Day Six – Wednesday 29 July
Men's Pairs – Daniel Salmon & Ross Owen Salmon and Owen weren't able to follow up their opening win, as they faced a strong Malta pairing in Troy Lorimer and Shaun James Parnis, who won the tie 2-1 after a tie-break.
Women's Singles – Amy Williams Williams was back in the rink and carried on her amazing form at these Games, showing fantastic composure and skill to see off South Africa's Bridget Herselman 2-0.
Day Eight – Friday 31 July
Men's Pairs – Daniel Salmon & Ross Owen Salmon and Owen were beaten 2-0 by Malaysia in a tough Section A match — a result that ended their hopes of progressing from the group.
Women's Singles – Amy Williams Williams maintained her unbeaten start in Section C with a commanding 2-0 win over the Isle of Man's Caroline Whitehead, making it four wins from four.
How the campaigns finished
Amy Williams's unbeaten run eventually came to an end against Malaysia's Emma Firyana Saroji — the reigning World Cup women's singles champion and a former world number one — who beat her 2-0 in Section C. It was a high-quality way for the Welsh debutant's excellent tournament to conclude, having taken four wins from her opening four matches against tough opposition. Daniel Salmon and Ross Owen's Section A campaign also included a further defeat, going down 0-2 to Jersey after their hopes of reaching the knockout stage had already ended against Malaysia.
Neither event ultimately delivered a Welsh medal. In the Men's Pairs, Northern Ireland's Adam McKeown and Gary Kelly took gold in a tie-break final against England, with Malaysia claiming bronze. In the Women's Singles, England's Katherine Rednall beat Guernsey's Ali Merrien in the final, with Norfolk Island's Shae Wilson taking bronze.
The Games in full: Wales' bowls campaign at Glasgow 2026
That's a wrap on bowls and para bowls for Wales at Glasgow 2026. Julie Thomas and Steffan James's bronze medal in the Mixed Para Pairs B2-B3 stands as the standout achievement of the campaign, built on a string of dramatic tie-break performances throughout the Games. Amy Williams and Lauren Gowen can be very proud of an unbeaten run through the group stage in the Women's Pairs, falling just short of a medal of their own, and Williams then went on to win four straight matches in her Women's Singles debut before running into world-class opposition. Ross Owen competed strongly across two disciplines in stacked fields, and Daniel Salmon's bid for a third consecutive Commonwealth pairs gold, this time alongside Owen, ultimately came up short against tough opposition.
Congratulations to the whole Welsh bowls and para bowls squad, and to directors John Wilson and Jamie Jones, on a memorable Glasgow 2026. Wales finished the Games with a strong overall medal haul as the Commonwealth Games drew to a close on 2 August — full credit to every athlete who represented the country across the ten days of competition.
