Welsh Individual Senior Merit- WCGBA

The 2024 Welsh Individual Senior Merit competition took place on Sunday 23rd June. This year it was held at Coedpoeth BC, our President’s Club, and their Centenary year. President, Pauline Lindley hosted the day with other members of the WCGBA. The guests included the BCGBA President Frank James. WELSH LADIES MERIT 2024

Sunday 20th May saw the 2024 Welsh Ladies Individual Merit competition at Brymbo BC. In attendance was our President, Pauline Lindley and other members of the WCGBA management, all there to support the first merit of the season. Referees included DT Evans, Arthur Peake and Peter Hughes. This year we had an excellent number of entries, 25 in all. In the prelim round, Bev Taylor won her game with Linda Kirkham 21-14. LDIBIS 2024

“Braveheart” the movie has nothing on the brave hearts of the Scottish athletes at the Learning Disabilities Indoor Bowls International Series 2024 for the Munro Cup. Considering after the opening two sessions play Scotland were sitting firmly on the bottom of the table. The Event started on day one with a rousing opening ceremony. WI project success with Ogwr Indoor Bowls Club

The partnership between BowlsWales and the Women’s Institute (WI) was established to encourage collaboration across sectors and promote women within sport. The National Governing Bodies identified a decline in female participation across the sport which this partnership aims to tackle, whilst offering bowls in the most accessible way. The project involves working closely with the WI federations and their nearest bowls club to create weekly beginner bowls sessions, women only open days as well as providing an opportunity to socialise and play. Welsh Association of Intellectual Learning Impairment Bowlers Pairs Championship 14th January 2024.

This was a Special Olympics GB sanctioned event run by Cardiff Chameleons a Special Olympics Cardiff and Vale affiliated Club. On Sunday January 14th  2024 Bowlers from South and Mid Wales descended on Cardiff Indoor Bowls Club to compete in the third Welsh Intellectual Learning Impairment Bowls Championships. A Total of 56 bowlers and around 75 Officials, Volunteers, Coaches and Supporters arrived at the club at 09:30 for registration.  Trophy’s in four Classifications were the ultimate goal, but first the competitors had to negotiate the divisional play section across eight divisions with Medals available for all competitors, before competing for

WCGBA Ladies Champion of Champions

We have a few things to be proud of this year, especially the ladies. Wales has the British Junior Ladies Champion for the second season in a row with Jess Lacey’s recent win at Heswall. We can also congratulate Linda Williams for getting to the final of the Ladies Champion of Champions on Sunday 1st October at Monk’s Sports and Social Club, Warrington. Linda, who has won this event twice ( 2010 and 2018) had a good run of games throughout the days’ play. She won 21-1 over Helen Clee in the first round then a 21-17 over Louise Ollerton

WCGBA Welsh Vets Club Championship

On Tuesday 26 September, the Mel Higham Welsh Vets Club Championship was played at Argoed BC. WCGBA Officials were, once again, there to support and run the event. Referees Arthur Peake and Alan Davies – having dried out from Sunday –  were joined by Peter Hughes. The four teams to qualify this year were Gresford Colliery – the 2022 winners, Coed Talon, Criccieth and Rhos Park. WCGBA Champion of Champions

As the 2023 season comes to a close on the WCGBA Competitions, the two remaining competitions were held this week. On Sunday, 24th September, the Welsh Champion of Champions was staged at Benllech BC. In a day of appalling weather conditions, the situation was challenging for all, including the reporter. Despite this, some of the bowling was truly of Championship quality. There were 16 players, each winners of a major Welsh title to qualify. BCGBA Ladies Junior Individual Merit

The BCGBA Ladies Junior Individual Merit was held, once again, at Heswall Bowling Club on Saturday September 2nd 2023. This is an excellent venue, with a tricky green and prominent crown. The makeup of the finals day is a ‘Round Robin’. There were four groups with four players and the scoring to 15 up. In Groups One and Four we had Junior Ladies from, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Warwick & Worcester and the Isle of Man. In Groups Two and Three, it was Wales, Cheshire, Isle of Man and Burton and District. WCGBA Mixed Pairs Competition

The 2023 Welsh Mixed Pairs Competition was held at Rhos On Sea Bowling Club on Sunday 27th August. The Referees on the day were Alan Davies, Arthur Peake and Richard Haywood. Nine pairs took part and all ages covered. In Round one, young Jack Dougal paired with veteran bowler Linda Williams had a comfortable win over Caroline Davies and Geraint Roberts 21-15. Paul and Marie Hallett also won 21-15 in their first game against Tony and Linda Kirkham.
