Welsh Government announcement- 26th March

BowlsWales, WBA, WWBA and WCGBA welcome the Welsh Government’s announcement that Organised outdoor children’s activities can resume. This will allow any person under 18 years old to take part in organised outdoor activity. The number of people who can meet outdoors is now a maximum of 6 people from 2 different households. BowlsWales Strategy Update

BowlsWales are excited to announce that work to develop a strategy for bowls in Wales will begin imminently. The work will be carried out by a working group with representatives from each of the Member National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) and BowlsWales Board Directors and staff. An independent consultant will facilitate the group as recommended by the Welsh Sport Association. The strategy will seek to develop a shared approach to promoting and supporting the game (in all its codes), and to developing players from grass roots through to elite level competition. Following a Board Meeting last night, BowlsWales has announced that Interim Chair of BowlsWales, Ken Burton has retired today from the BowlsWales Board. Ken had been involved at BowlsWales from the very start, from the Steering Committee to the formation of the body in 2017, and since then had played a prominent role in promoting bowls throughout the country, working tirelessly with the National Governing Bodies. On Tuesday 12th January, BowlsWales hosted its AGM digitally for the first time in its history. Held via Zoom, the 2020 AGM was attended by representatives from across all National Governing Bodies, Service Bodies, Sport Wales, Board and staff and was chaired by BowlsWales Interim Chair, Ken Burton. The AGM offered the opportunity to meet the BowlsWales Board and Staff and present a summary of BowlsWales 2019/20 Annual Report and accounts. Welsh Government announcement, 30th November- Update

Following today’s Welsh Government announcement there is no change to participating in bowls. Leisure facilities (indoors and outdoors) will remain open. The First Minister specifically stated that access to sport facilities was being protected because of the important benefits to mental well-being associated with exercise. There are no changes to the regulations for sport and exercise, except that ice rinks will be closed. However, pubs, cafes, restaurants, and bars will have to close by 6pm and will not be allowed to serve alcohol. You can find our guidelines here.

Guidance for returning post firebreak

Following the release of the Welsh Government guidance for returning post firebreak, we can confirm the following: Bowls clubs can open following the end of the firebreak on November 9th at 12:01am. If you are aged 11 and over, you can play sport or exercise in a group of up to 30 people outdoors or 15 people indoors. Organised activity in simultaneous groups is allowed if the capacity is aligned to the UK Active Guidance. Regular review of the Company Articles is a normal part of any good governance process, as the BowlsWales Company was set up in June 2017 now was a good time for the review to take place. It was agreed that an Articles Review Working Group comprising of representatives from the Members and the Board would undertake a full review and make recommendations. The group had support from Sport Wales, the BowlsWales General Manager and a governance consultant. The resulting document has not changed significantly but has changed in some key areas. Richard Bowen steps down as a Director of BowlsWales

Richard Bowen has stepped down from the board of BowlsWales, having decided not to renew his Directorship following the expiry of his three year term. Ken Burton, Chair of BowlsWales, commented “Richard has been an excellent Director, and he has made an outstanding contribution to BowlsWales since its establishment in 2017.
