Cardiff Indoor Bowls Club 10/11th December 2022

On the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 10/11th December, 36 bowlers competed in four Classifications of the Welsh Learning Disability Singles Championship, at Cardiff Indoor Bowls Club.
Some tremendous bowling was witnessed throughout the weekend, which culminated on the Sunday afternoon with the Finals of each Classification. Bowlers from Pembroke, Radnorshire, Islwyn, Rhondda and Cardiff Chameleons, took part in round robin competitions in four separate classifications, on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.  The winners and runner-up in each Classification going on to the Semi-Finals and Finals on Sunday afternoon, to determine the Welsh Champions.
The L4 Classification Finals was dominated by new bowlers from the Pembroke Disability Bowls Club.

Henry Mack ran out the winner beating George McCreath 9-2.

In the L3 Classification Gwawr Harries from Pembroke ran out a worthy winner over Antanas Schiastney from Cardiff Chameleons winning 13-3.

In the L2 Classification, Ian Kelleher and David Williams from Cardiff Chameleons contested the final with a very determined Ian Kelleher winning the final 10-5.

The L1 Classification was an all-girl affair between Naomi Baelz of Cardiff and Lorna Clark from Radnor. Naomi took the honours in this classification, winning her Semi-final 13-4 and the final 15-4. Naomi had been runner-up in this competition since its inception in 2019 but proved to be the dominant force. It was also her second title this year after winning the Welsh Disability Outdoor Pairs Final in August al Llandrindod Wells, with her partner Millie Campbell.

My Sincere thanks to the Coaches and Volunteers from all the clubs who managed to get their Teams to Cardiff despite the snow and icy conditions. To the Umpires and Volunteer Markers from Cardiff IBC, Newport and Bridgend who played a crucial role in getting us through a very busy schedule.  A special thank you Cardiff Indoor Bowls Club and in particular, the club’s chairman Mr. Ron Davies, who presented the Trophy’s to our worthy finalists.
