Ross Owen has been announced as part of Team Wales Athletes Commission board. Ross will join athletes from a range of other sports as they work over the next four year cycle towards Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games. His role will include inputting valuable athlete opinion and experiences to ensure that Team Wales can prepare all athletes for the next Commonwealth Games. The 2023 British Isle Indoor Bowls Council Championships
The 2023 BIIBC Championships were held from 13th – 15th March in Abbeyview, Scotland. The champions of each respective discipline from the Channel Isles, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales competed to be crowed British Champion. It was a great success for the Welsh Ladies, with Lowri Powell making it to the Ladies Singles finals while Lauren Gowan was crowned BIIBC Junior Ladies Singles Champion. The championships ended in more silverware for the Welsh Ladies, with Marion Purcell, Amy Williams, Kerry Packwood and Kelly Packwood being crowned the BIIBC Ladies Fours Winners. Experienced Welsh international bowlers Chris Ashman and Anwen Butten announced as Welsh Team Managers for the 2023 outdoor season. Both are seasoned international players themselves having medalled at European and Commonwealth Games respectively. Chris Ashman began his bowling career at the age of 6 but states that he “was not allowed to play my first game for Porthcawl until I was 10.” Since then he has gone on to represent Wales at numerous events winning individual and combination titles at national, international and European level. Jack was born in Nantwich, Cheshire and moved to Wales in 1976. On leaving school he studied construction and engineering going on to be a Civil Engineering Draughtsman before being called up for National Service. Following this, Jack studied Design and Technology becoming a teacher in Manchester, Cheshire and Wales schools. He was also an adviser for schools. He was introduced to bowls and was coached by his father at the tender age of five.
