Wales won the BIIBC U25 International Series held at Aberdeen IBC, following a dominant display during the series throughout the weekend. Welsh Bowlers success at Special Olympic Anniversary Games
The Anniversary Games in Stirling was celebrating Special Olympic GB’s 40th Anniversary and Special Olympic Worldwide’s 50th Anniversary. Indoor Bowls was a late inclusion in the Anniversary Games which meant that only a small percentage of Welsh Bowlers were available for selection. Cardiff Chameleons Bowls section, based at Sophia Gardens, is the biggest club in Wales for people with Intellectual Learning Difficulties. Our numbers have increased considerably, following the success of the Welsh Bowlers at the National Summer Games in 2017 where a squad of 14 Bowlers came home with 20 medals. It was definitely a case of ‘thunderbolt and lightning’ at the Welsh Junior Merit at Benllech on Sunday 27th May. Deputy President, Dave Mathias was our host with Referees DT Evans, Arthur Peake and Alan Davies. This year we had a smaller number of entries than previous occasions with a field of 24 players from across North Wales. 10 Nations Tournament Announcement
The eyes of the bowls world will be on Cardiff & Vale next month for a 10 nations test match. Wales have invited nine countries to take part in the nine-day event which is being held as part of the preparation for the Atlantic Championships which Wales will host in 2019. Countries taking part are Malaysia, Australia, USA, Spain, Ireland, Jersey, Canada, South Africa and Namibia (men only). There were mixed fortunes for the Welsh team today on the second day of the games at Broadbeach. The Men’s Triple continue their fine form with a 27 10 win over Papua New Guinea which secures them safe passage to the Quarter Finals.
