Daniels delivers Wales’ first medal on the greens.
April 8th 2018 can be another memorable moment that Laura Daniels can add to her impressive bowling CV. Daniels’ outstanding form continued into the semi-final where she faced Canada’s Kelly McKerihen powering past her Canadian opposition winning 21 – 13. Setting her up for the Gold medal match that evening against current title holder Jo Edwards from New Zealand.
The Gold medal decider took place under the BroadBeach lights in front of a large crowd, and was televised live back home on the BBC. Daniels’ lead 15-10 and then 17-13, however the turning point came on the 20th end when Edwards pulled three shots back, followed by a single shot to draw level 17 – 17. Edwards took the Gold medal with a 21-17 victory.
The Men’s Pairs also have guaranteed themselves a Commonwealth Games Silver Medal at a minimum by overcoming the pair from the Cook Islands 21 – 14 to set up a Gold Medal head to head against Scotland’s Paul Foster and Alex Marshall. The Final will take place on Monday 9th April 12am (BST) and will be streamed live on the BBC.
The open B6/B7/B8 triple of Jon Hubbard, Ray Lillicrop and Pauline Wilson today suffered a defeat to a strong Australian trio 22-12. Tomorrow evening the trio will play England in the final game of the group stage.
The B2/B3 mixed pairs who are currently sitting fourth in the group suffered a defeat to table leaders Australia 18 – 6. With one game remaining the pair will play South Africa tomorrow, the top four of the group will go through to the semi-finals on Tuesday 10th.
