Wales’ Bethan Russ, Chris Klefenz, Emma Gittins and Chris Ashman struck gold at the 11th European Championships.

The quartet claimed the mixed fours title over Ireland and Scotland in an impressive fashion dropping just one set during the 6 day competition.

Held every two years, this year’s Championships took place at the Les Creux Bowls Club, Jersey with players from 16 Nations from across Europe competing. The format of the competition includes 3 disciplines; Mixed Rinks, Men’s Pairs and Women’s Pairs all played in a group set-up.

After a busy week on the greens the men’s and women’s pairs finished 5th in their disciplines and after securing  a gold medal in the mixed rinks this resulted in Team Wales finishing 4th in the overall table rankings.

Wales’ Team Manager, Kathy Pearce said “This is a fantastic achievement for the four players and the championships have offered a great level of experience to support their bowling careers. The team equipped themselves professionally, displaying first class bowling with great team spirt which led to a very successful trip. I would also like to congratulate Bowls Jersey and the EBU on hosting a successful event.”
