WCGBA Senior Merit ( Gwyn Morris Trophy )

The WCGBA 2023 Senior Merit ( Gwyn Morris Trophy ) was held at Rhos-on-Sea Bowling Club on Sunday 25th June. Our host for the day, President Jack Hunt, welcomed everyone at the start including his guests, Deputy WCGBA President Pauline Lindley and Officers of the Association and special guests, Martin Goddard BCGBA President 2023 and Richard Palmer (Chair), Claire Biddle (Development Manager) and Sophie Hancocks (General Manager) of Bowls Wales. Guernsey 2023 NatWest International Island Games

The teams are in and the draws are made for the NatWest International Island Games Indoor Bowls. With just a little over a month to go. The teams and draws have been made for the Indoor Bowls event to be held at the Guernsey Indoor Bowls Center, Hougue Du Pommier, Vale, Guernsey. GY6 8BD. From Sunday 9th to Thursday 13th July 2023. The first games are scheduled to start at 9am on Sunday 9th July where we will see the start of the triples championship. Group A features the Guernsey Men, Jersey Women, Falklands Islands Men, Ynys Mon and Orkney.

Welsh Crown Green Bowling Association Welsh Vet’s Merit

This years Vet’s Merit was held at Argoed Bowling Club on Wednesday 7th June.  Always hosted by the Immediate Past President – it was Simon Walker’s day to welcome the players and his guests to the event. Supporting the day were the WCGBA current President Jack Hunt, Deputy President Pauline Lindley and members and officers of the WCGBA. Welsh Crown Green Bowling Association- Welsh Ladies’ Merit

The major competitions of the Crown Green season 2023 got underway with the Welsh Ladies Merit held at Old Colwyn Bowling Club. The weather was ideal and there was a good crowd. Entry this year was well up from 2022 with 18 ladies playing for the trophy. WCGBA President, Jack Hunt hosted the day by getting each game underway. The ultimate event in the Welsh Crown Green calendar was played Sunday 2nd October at Johnstown BC. This event is a unique opportunity to bring together those winners of major tournaments held in Wales for the prestigious title of Champion of Champions. WCGBA- WELSH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2022.

The Welsh Club Championship 2022 was played on Sunday 18th September at Brymbo Bowling Club. Referees on the day were Peter Hughes, Arthur Peake and Tom Lockyer. There were four teams in contention for the title – one from each area of North Wales and each the winner of their respective Area Cup. They were; Flintshire Area – represented by Mold Rec. BC, Glyndwr represented by Colwyn Bay British Legion, Gwynedd by Beaumaris BC and Wrexham by Cunliffe BC. Wales started well against a strong England team on the pleasant Clarence Park greens and at one stage we’re ahead in 4 of the 7 games but in the end had to settle for 2 points after securing one win. WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION- Welsh Qualifier for the British Centenary Mixed Pairs Comp. 2022

The Mixed Pairs qualifier and Welsh final day was held at Craig-y-Don BC on Sunday 28th August 2022. Referees on the day were, DT Evans, Alan Davies, Arthur Peake and Richard Haywood. Entry was substantially higher this year with 17 mixed pairs contending on the day. The early rounds got underway with Nicola Boulton and partner Tom Loundes taking an excellent win 21-11 for their first game. WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION- British Junior Champion 2022

The BCGBA Junior Individual Merit was held on Saturday 20th August 2022 at Ashton Cricket Club, Greater Manchester. Wales may be only one part of the Crown Green world in Britain, but we punch well above our weight when it comes to talent. Our two representatives Ryan P Williams – Llanfair PG BC. ( 2022 Welsh Junior Merit Champion ) and Finley Hormbrey – Fron Park BC and 2022 Runner-up faced a field of other talented youngsters from across the world of Crown Green bowls. Ryan had a comfortable 21-10 win in his first match against Jack Brannon of Cheshire.
