BowlsWales AGM

On Tuesday 12th January, BowlsWales hosted its AGM digitally for the first time in its history. Held via Zoom, the 2020 AGM was attended by representatives from across all National Governing Bodies, Service Bodies, Sport Wales, Board and staff and was chaired by BowlsWales Interim Chair, Ken Burton. The AGM offered the opportunity to meet the BowlsWales Board and Staff and present a summary of BowlsWales 2019/20 Annual Report and accounts. Christmas Opening Hours

The BowlsWales staff team will be taking a break over the Christmas period. Our ‘home offices’ will be closing on Friday 18th December at 5pm and re-opening on Tuesday 5th January 2021 from 9am. BowlsWales update on large gatherings

BowlsWales Covid-19 Update-14th July 2020 Following the First Minister’s announcements on Friday 10th July, BowlsWales welcomes the news below. ‘The Welsh Government is making changes to the regulations to allow larger gatherings of up to 30 people outdoors only where these are organised and supervised by a responsible person for sports and other leisure activities and classes.’ The number of people allowed on each rink is governed by current legislation and restrictions on adhering to social distancing. Stroke Survivors use Bowls as recovery

Stroke survivors throughout Wales can now turn to the sport of Bowls on their road to recovery This follows the announcement of a new partnership between Stroke Association Wales and BowlsWales to put stroke survivors in touch with their local bowls club to learn the sport – and take more steps on a return to better health. The British Isles competition was held at Heatherton Country Sports Park on 12th/13th October. Pembroke County Team won in the last end of the Day, with the Irish Team from West Tyrone coming 2nd and West Midlands finishing third. The Competition was a challenge of the top county team from the three nations.

Wales Medal Success at the Under 18 Mixed British Isles Championships.

Inverclyde Indoor Bowls Club (Glasgow) hosted the Under 18 Mixed British Isles Championships in early October. The two day event saw top teams from teams from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales compete across all disciplines – Singles, Pairs, Triples & Fours. Wales had a very successful trip to Glasgow coming home with two Bronze Medals and a Silver Medal. Fours silver medallists: Tom Sims, Jack Mounty, Oliver Witchell and Tegan Rees. BOWLS CLUBS THROUGHOUT WALES TO BENEFIT THROUGH SPORT WALES GRANTS 20 Lawn and Crown Green Bowls clubs the length and breadth of Wales will benefit from £112,479 worth of funding from the Sport Wales Place for Sport grant scheme this year. The Clubs are among 118 different clubs and organisations from throughout Welsh sport to gain awards from the £1 million fund, controlled by Sport Wales. WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION The 2019 season reached its culmination with the Welsh Champion of Champions tournament held at Abergele BC on Sunday 6th October. The day was hosted by WCGBA President, Dave Mathias, in his last role as President and run by Dusia Price , Glyndwr Area. Our Referees were DT Evans, Alan Davies, Arthur Peake and Peter Hayes.
