BOWLS CLUBS THROUGHOUT WALES TO BENEFIT THROUGH SPORT WALES GRANTS

20 Lawn and Crown Green Bowls clubs the length and breadth of Wales will benefit from £112,479 worth of funding from the Sport Wales Place for Sport grant scheme this year.

The Clubs are among 118 different clubs and organisations from throughout Welsh sport to gain awards from the £1 million fund, controlled by Sport Wales.

Grants for Bowls Clubs range from £15,000 for Hay on Wye Bowling Club, to go towards the building of a new pavilion that will not only benefit bowlers but the whole community through a variety of uses, to £295 for the Gelli Park Club. Awards are made to support existing development plans drawn up and partially funded by the clubs themselves.

BowlsWales Chair Alun Jones is delighted by the successful bids:
“In challenging financial times, these awards will make all the difference, and I congratulate so many bowls clubs for working hard and submitting such compelling cases.”

BowlsWales National Development Manager Claire Joll is equally pleased:
“I am thrilled, so soon after joining BowlsWales, that after a successful social media campaign, and strong links with the National Governing Bodies, that not only did a large number of clubs apply, but that so many have been successful. The awards will help strengthen our clubs and ensure that we can continue to grow our sport.

“I hope that this will now encourage more Bowls Clubs to apply for funding from a variety of sources in the future.”

Brian Davies, Sport Wales’s Director of Elite Sport, says
“The response to the application process was quite staggering really. We’re delighted that so many clubs, across so many sports, are going to be strengthened because of the investments we’ve been able to make.”
