Wales has hosted many great sporting events and the City of Newport will be adding to that emphatic list when the Newport Indoor Bowls Centre plays host to the World Indoor Bowls Council Championships in December 2017.

The championship will see seven countries including top players from Wales vying for the titles up for grabs which includes World Junior Men’s and Ladies Singles and Mixed Triples Championships.
Jordan Davies, Ffion Jones, Seren Jones, Ross Owen, Daniel Salmon and Amy Williams will all be competing during this 3-day festival of bowls, which promises to deliver some top-class competition and exciting play.

Mike Doody of the Newport Indoor Bowls Association said “When the opportunity came for us to host these Championships it was felt that it was one not to be missed. To be able to see top international juniors from Wales, Scotland, Ireland, England, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Canada would be a great experience for all bowls fans.”

The event will be held at the Newport Indoor Bowls Centre and will be officially opened by David Fouweather, Mayor of Newport on Tuesday 5th December and will run through to Friday 8th December when the closing ceremony will follow the finals of all three competitions.

Event Information

Venue:
The Glebelands Bank Street, Newport NP19 7HF

Opening Ceremony:
Tuesday 5th December at 5.30 pm – Mayor of Newport David Fouweather will roll the first wood. Play commences at 6.00pm.

Play:
Wednesday 6th December and Thursday 7th December play commences at 9.30am and continue throughout the day.

Finals:
Friday 8th December play commences at 9.30am.

The closing ceremony:
Friday 8th December following the completion of the games.

Entry:
£3 per person per day, other than the Tuesday evening which is free to attend.

Other information:
Programmes available at the door. Refreshments will be available throughout the week.
