Frantic Five

Congratulations to the junior team from Rhondda Indoor Bowls Club who were recently crowned the inaugural champions of the new WIBA Frantic Five competition. The inaugural Frantic Five competition took place on Sunday 8th April at Radnorshire Indoor Bowls Club. The competition was organised by the WIBA to encourage young bowlers to play competitively in a team environment, whilst having fun and embracing the spirit of the game. “What a hero” They say the man will be given the freedom of “Bont”. That was the reaction on social media to the final bowl that Gilbert Miles drew in to claim a Bronze medal against Scotland. Day Six – 2018 Commonwealth Games

Julie Thomas & Gilbert Miles with Directors John Wilson and Bryon John today took on South Africa in the B2/B3 mixed pairs semi-final match and narrowly missed out on a spot in the final; it was a close fought game going all the way to the last bowl. Monday, 9th April 2018 will live long in the memory of all Welsh bowlers and the friends and family of Daniel Salmon & Marc Wyatt – crowned 2018 Commonwealth Games Lawn Bowls Mens Pairs – GOLD medallists. Wales’ first ever winners of the Mens Pairs event. Daniels delivers Wales’ first medal on the greens. April 8th 2018 can be another memorable moment that Laura Daniels can add to her impressive bowling CV. Daniels’ outstanding form continued into the semi-final where she faced Canada’s Kelly McKerihen powering past her Canadian opposition winning 21 – 13. Day Three – Commonwealth Games Day three was also going to be a pivotal day in the quest for medals in Week One of the Lawn Bowls events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. There were mixed fortunes for the Welsh team today on the second day of the games at Broadbeach. The Men’s Triple continue their fine form with a 27 10 win over Papua New Guinea which secures them safe passage to the Quarter Finals. Wales will play England tomorrow in the last game of the group stage which will determine the top spot in the group. Day One – 2018 Commonwealth Games

The 2018 Commonwealth Games is underway in what was a busy first day for our Welsh bowlers in the Lawn Bowls events. Ten matches in all, which started in bright morning sunshine, before a mid-afternoon cloudburst delayed play before the evening session under the Broadbeach floodlights. Laura Daniels began her Ladies Singles campaign with two wins, firstly an excellent 21-15 win over Guernsey’s recently crowned World Cup indoor singles winner Lucy Beere.
