Welsh Government announcement, 12th March- Reopening of Outdoor venues

BowlsWales and the National Governing Bodies (WBA & WWBA & WCGBA) welcome the news from the Welsh Government announcement today for the reopening of outdoor venues. Outdoor bowls clubs can reopen from Saturday 13th March, ensuring that there are no more than 4 adults from 2 household’s taking part and that all other government guidelines are being strictly followed. Further specific guidance for both Lawn Bowls and Crown Green will be released in the coming days via the BowlsWales and Welsh Bowls websites. Return to Play

  Following the First Ministers announcement on Friday 19th February, there were no change in restrictions to allow for Bowls clubs to reopen. Wales remain in level 4 with the message ‘stay at home’. The next review will take place on 12th March. The WBA & WWBA are working together with BowlsWales to finalise return to play guidelines in preparation for clubs to return when it is safe to do. BowlsWales Strategy Update

BowlsWales are excited to announce that work to develop a strategy for bowls in Wales will begin imminently. The work will be carried out by a working group with representatives from each of the Member National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) and BowlsWales Board Directors and staff. An independent consultant will facilitate the group as recommended by the Welsh Sport Association. The strategy will seek to develop a shared approach to promoting and supporting the game (in all its codes), and to developing players from grass roots through to elite level competition. Following a Board Meeting last night, BowlsWales has announced that Interim Chair of BowlsWales, Ken Burton has retired today from the BowlsWales Board. Ken had been involved at BowlsWales from the very start, from the Steering Committee to the formation of the body in 2017, and since then had played a prominent role in promoting bowls throughout the country, working tirelessly with the National Governing Bodies. On Tuesday 12th January, BowlsWales hosted its AGM digitally for the first time in its history. Held via Zoom, the 2020 AGM was attended by representatives from across all National Governing Bodies, Service Bodies, Sport Wales, Board and staff and was chaired by BowlsWales Interim Chair, Ken Burton. Christmas Opening Hours

The BowlsWales staff team will be taking a break over the Christmas period. Our ‘home offices’ will be closing on Friday 18th December at 5pm and re-opening on Tuesday 5th January 2021 from 9am. Welsh Government announcement, 30th November- Update

Following today’s Welsh Government announcement there is no change to participating in bowls. Leisure facilities (indoors and outdoors) will remain open. The First Minister specifically stated that access to sport facilities was being protected because of the important benefits to mental well-being associated with exercise. There are no changes to the regulations for sport and exercise, except that ice rinks will be closed. However, pubs, cafes, restaurants, and bars will have to close by 6pm and will not be allowed to serve alcohol. You can find our guidelines here.

Guidance for returning post firebreak

Following the release of the Welsh Government guidance for returning post firebreak, we can confirm the following: Bowls clubs can open following the end of the firebreak on November 9th at 12:01am. If you are aged 11 and over, you can play sport or exercise in a group of up to 30 people outdoors or 15 people indoors. Organised activity in simultaneous groups is allowed if the capacity is aligned to the UK Active Guidance. The Welsh Government have announced that they will introduce a two week “fire-break” national lockdown from 6:00pm on Friday, 23 October. This will last until the early hours of Monday, 9 November.
