WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION The 2019 season reached its culmination with the Welsh Champion of Champions tournament held at Abergele BC on Sunday 6th October. The day was hosted by WCGBA President, Dave Mathias, in his last role as President and run by Dusia Price , Glyndwr Area. Our Referees were DT Evans, Alan Davies, Arthur Peake and Peter Hayes. The field of sixteen players featured champions from a number of Welsh events throughout the year including the prestigious Merits and a variety of qualifying competitions. WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION

The Welsh Club Championship 2019 was held on Sunday 15th September at Grove Park BC, Rhyl. This year the clubs were Coed Talon, Llay, Min Y Don and Blaenau Ffestiniog, all winners of their Area Cups. WCGBA President, Dave Mathias was our host along with Deputy Simon Walker and other Members of the WCGBA Management. The referees were DT Evans, Alan Davies and Arthur Peake. Junior County Championship 2019

Junior County Championship 2019 WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION The final game, for our young players, in the Junior County championship was played on Sunday 8th September with the Home venue at Llanfair PG BC and the Away leg at Woodfield Sports and Social in Staffordshire. This was an important game for the team in order to maintain their inclusion in their group and they delivered in spades. Welsh Crown Green Bowling 2019 Finals

WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION WCGBA Senior Merit 2019 (Gwyn Morris Trophy)- President, Dave Mathias with the foursemi-finalists. The Senior Men’s Individual Merit is seen as a feast of bowling, and the 2019 finals day at Benllech BC delivered just that. The event was hosted by our President Dave Mathias with excellent support and help from WCGBA Management members and Gwynedd Area Officials. Clive Morris, a great supporter like his late father, Gwyn, was also there and guest Ken Burton, a Director from Bowls Wales. The Referees for the day were DT Evans, Alan Davies, Arthur Peake and Ian Black.

British Male & Female Champion of Champions – Crown Green Bowls

It may be getting to the close of the 2018 season, but the ‘dragon’, it seems is not ready to hibernate. At the Waterloo Champion of Champions event in Blackpool at the weekend, Wales had much to celebrate and be proud of. In the men’s competition on Saturday 29th September John Bailey and Mathew Worden were flying the flag for Wales and they passed the baton to Linda Williams and Sarah Nicholas for the Ladies competition on the Sunday. British Ladies Merit – Crown Green Bowling

The British Ladies Merit was held in July at Helsby Community Sports Club. ‘All the greens were brown’ but the Welsh ladies were on fire. Our three qualifiers from Wales, Jane Bowler ( Conwy ), Sarah Nicholas ( Gresford Colliery ) and Linda Williams ( Hawksbury ) seemed to find the conditions to their liking in as much as the standard of their performances was to win each one of them a place in the quarter final. The annual Senior Championship for Wales at Brymbo Sports and Social Club. The event was hosted by 2018 Welsh President, Brenda Jones who was delighted to welcome everyone to this exceptional venue. A warm welcome was extended to the 2018 BCGBA President, Keith Andrews, who has many friends in Wales, and to Allan Jones and his wife Sue, from Bowls Wales – a co ordinating body for bowls across Wales. British Junior Merit – Crown Green Bowling

The phrase ‘It’s Coming Home’ has been bandied about in sporting circles all summer. As a country, we can truly say this as the British Junior Merit Trophy returned to Wales at the weekend with a brilliant victory for Matthew Worden ( Gresford Colliery ). Together with Sam Williams ( Cunliffe ), they represented Wales at the competition which was held this year at Netherseal Bowling Club in Derbyshire. The event was hosted by the Deputy British President 2018 Graham Jackson. The field of 32 players from across the crown green bowling world included a few unfamiliar faces and names.

It was definitely a case of ‘thunderbolt and lightning’ at the Welsh Junior Merit at Benllech on Sunday 27th May. Deputy President, Dave Mathias was our host with Referees DT Evans, Arthur Peake and Alan Davies. This year we had a smaller number of entries than previous occasions with a field of 24 players from across North Wales. The weather was blustery with light rain as the games got underway in the preliminary round.
