The First Minister has confirmed that Wales will move to full Alert Level 0 this Saturday 7 August. This means that most current legal restrictions will move into guidance, there remain some specific legal protections listed below: Everyone must continue to isolate for 10 days if they have Covid-19 symptoms or if they have a positive test result. The 2021 Ladies Merit Final was held on Sunday 25th July at Mancot BC as part of the Events Research Programme due to the Covid 19 pandemic situation. This was the last event undertaken as part of the programme for 2021. Despite greatly reduced numbers at all of the Merits this year, those who have entered and come along to support have enjoyed the experience of bowling again and have helped tremendously by their patience and consideration of the rules on hygiene and social distancing. Our host for the day was Immediate Past President, Dave Mathias. The honour is given to the Immediate Past President to host this event in their area and one they look forward to. Qualifying rounds are held in each of the four Crown Green areas ( Flintshire, Glyndwr, Gwynedd and Wrexham) where sixteen progress to the final day. Sunday 11th July 2021 and it was the turn of the Welsh Juniors to step up for this years’ Merit. The event was held at Highbury BC, Prestatyn and hosted by 2021 Deputy President of the WCGBA, Jack Hunt – no stranger at the top of the game, having won the Welsh Senior Merit, The British Senior Merit and Crown King in the same year back in 1979. The 2021 Senior Merit Final was held at Argoed Bowling Club in Flintshire. In front of a much reduced crowd of spectators, sixteen qualifiers – from across North Wales met to the 2021 winner. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit communities across Wales hard and as a result, sport in the community has never been more important. The National Governing Body Development and Communication Group have developed a National Campaign aimed to help clubs retain and attract interest in the club during the pandemic and in the aftermath. BowlsWales, WBA and WWBA have been working together over the recent months to ensure guidelines and information to clubs are compliant with any Welsh Government regulations. Return to play guidelines for clubs will be released next week and can be found on BowlsWales and WBA & WWBA websites. In recognition of the effect that COVID-19 has brought on the sport and leisure sector, the Welsh Government has provided additional funding to support the sector in its greatest need. The fund is intended to provide essential support to sports clubs and organisations, independent providers and sporting events who have all faced significant challenges during the crisis and continue to be severely impacted. BowlsWales and the National Governing Bodies (WBA, WWBA, WIBA, WLIBA, WCGBA, WSMBA) welcome the Welsh Government’s movement to bring forward the easing of restrictions and that in doing so they have sought to prioritise sport and exercise.
